Many people enjoy a glass of crisp, cool white wine in the afternoon while many others enjoy fine spirits at night, and almost everyone can’t live without a hot cup of coffee to start their day. Temperature is the common thread through which you are able to enjoy your experience in each one of these situations. We can’t speak for every sample population, but here at SPARQ, every person that works here has had many days where their wine has gotten too warm or their coffee to cold.
Soapstone is a brilliant solution because they are an easy way to keep your whiskey, scotch, wine, tea, and coffee at the optimal temperature far longer than you are able to enjoy it today. All we had to do is find a way to fashion soapstone into a usable, convenient, everyday item; an .875” soapstone cube most commonly called, whiskey rocks.
Soapstone is a naturally occurring stone, made by the earth and has been used for its temperature retaining properties for centuries. True soapstone is inert. Alkalis and acids won’t affect it as they will with granite, marble, or slate stone. In the real world, this means soapstone will not react to any liquid you choose to drop them in, nor will it react to any household cleaners.
Speaking of uses, these stones can be frozen or heated. The following are a few ways we have found very useful in our everyday lives;
If you are feeling more sophisticated, drop a few stones in your favorite whiskey, scotch, or bourbon after a few hours in the freezer and you will have a perfectly balanced spirit, literally on the rocks.
There is nothing worse than reaching for your glass of white wine and finding it warm. Add a few rocks to your wine after a few hours in the freezer and you won’t have to worry about warm wine ever again (we don’t recommend using the rocks with delicate glass, your glass could break).
Until now, there has been little mention of their inverse properties. While cooling a spirit to perfection is certainly an attribute, keeping your coffee or tea warm in the morning for sustained periods of time, fits the bill for the ultimate morning convenience.
How many times have you left for work in the morning, only to be stopped in traffic with a rapidly cooling cup of coffee or tea? Imagining these stones as Coffee Stones, you would ensure that the heat would stay with you on your whole commute and then some. Just put three stones in the microwave and set it on “high” for just two minutes and you’re set.
We would like it to be said, these stones are not intended to act as mini-freezers or sub-zero inducing cubes…simply, they gently cool or warm your intended liquid, but most importantly, they sustain the desired temperature over much longer periods of time. That means no more “whiskey face” from your friend that likes to drink a spirit “neat.”
Whether or not you are using these as whiskey rocks, coffee stones, or keeping your wine cool, these soapstone cubes from SPARQ are there to help you sustain the wanted temperature of your chosen use eliminating the inconvenience of rapidly changing drink temperatures.
Where to get them?
We do manufacture these stones, from industrial waste, and thus claim sustainable practices. We offer our stones through a secure online store; store.sparqusa.com if you would like to purchase.
Testimonial – Love it, April 13, 2011
I bought these as a gift for my boyfriend who is a big Bourbon and Whiskey drinker. He absolutely loves them and thinks they are the neatest things in the world. Opening them on Christmas he was rather confused, and goes “what are they” so I explained them to him and he was so ecstatic. He uses them every time he is home and drinking, and even brought them on our cruise with us. It is a great gift for the Bourbon and Whiskey drinker in your life
